Live Train Chart — Coach-Wise Vacant Berths
After IRCTC prepares the chart, vacant berths become available — and Ghumo's Live Chart shows them coach by coach with exact berth numbers and segment-wise vacancy. Perfect for WL/RAC passengers, onboard travellers requesting a berth from the TTE, and last-minute bookers.
How to Check Vacant Berths on Ghumo
- Tap Open Live Chart above (or use the Chart button on the home page)
- Enter the train number (4 or 5 digits) — name and route auto-fill
- Pick your boarding station from the route halts
- Vacant berths appear coach-by-coach once the chart is ready
- Tap any coach to see exact vacant berth numbers and segment ranges
Why Use Live Chart?
See total vacant berths per coach and per class — no scrolling through endless lists.
Tap a coach to see berth numbers (e.g. S5/U-32, B2/L-7) so you can request a specific spot.
Some berths are empty only between certain stations — Ghumo shows the exact free segment.
If your ticket is still WL/RAC after chart prep, Live Chart helps you find an empty berth to request from the TTE.
When Is the Chart Prepared?
| Train Departure | Chart Preparation Time |
|---|---|
| Daytime trains (after 6:00 AM) | About 4 hours before departure |
| Early-morning trains (before 6:00 AM) | Previous evening, around 9:00 PM |
| Second / supplementary chart | Up to 30 minutes before departure (limited) |
Live Chart on Ghumo updates immediately after IRCTC publishes the chart. If you check before chart prep, you'll see a friendly "chart not prepared yet" notice with the expected ready time.
Reading the Live Chart
- Coach codes: S = Sleeper, B = AC 3-tier, A = AC 2-tier, H = AC First, M = 3AC Economy, C = Chair Car, E = Executive Chair, D = Second Sitting reserved.
- Berth codes: LB = Lower, MB = Middle, UB = Upper, SL = Side Lower, SU = Side Upper.
- Vacant count per coach: e.g. S5: 12 vacant — there are 12 empty berths in coach S5 in your segment.
- Segment range: e.g. U-32 vacant: BCT → BRC — that berth is empty between Mumbai Central and Vadodara only.
Who Should Use Live Chart?
- Waitlist (WL) passengers still waiting after chart prep — find a vacant berth to request from the TTE onboard (pay onboard fare + surcharge).
- RAC passengers wanting a full berth instead of the shared sitting allotment.
- Last-minute travellers looking to book a current-booking ticket via IRCTC up to 30 minutes before departure.
- Group travellers wanting nearby berths in the same coach.
- Senior citizens / women with kids looking for vacant lower berths.
Live Chart Pro Tips
- Check multiple boarding stations — vacancy can differ if you board at an intermediate halt with its own quota.
- For long-distance trains, vacancies often appear in middle segments as passengers de-board at intermediate stations.
- Lower berths tend to fill first — if you specifically want LB, check coach by coach for one that's still free.
- Combine with Live Train Status to time your boarding-station chat with the TTE.
- Bookmark this page or open Live Chart directly from any device.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the IRCTC live train chart?
The live chart is the final passenger list prepared by Indian Railways before a train departs. It shows confirmed bookings, cancellations and resulting vacant berths.
How do I see vacant berths in a specific coach?
Open Live Chart on Ghumo, enter the train number and boarding station, then tap a coach (e.g. S5) to see exact vacant berth numbers like U-32 or L-14, with the station-segment they're free for.
When is the chart prepared?
Usually about 4 hours before departure for daytime trains. For trains departing before 6:00 AM, the chart is prepared the previous evening (around 9:00 PM).
Can I book a vacant berth shown in the chart?
Yes. After chart prep, IRCTC opens "Current Booking" for vacant berths until 30 minutes before departure. Onboard, you can request the TTE to allot a vacant berth and pay the prevailing fare difference.
What does "segment-wise vacancy" mean?
A berth may be empty only between specific stations. For example, U-32 in S5 might be vacant from Mumbai to Vadodara but booked from Vadodara onward. Ghumo shows the exact free segment.
Is live chart free on Ghumo?
Yes. Live Chart is completely free with no login required.
Why doesn't my train show a chart?
Either chart preparation hasn't happened yet (check ~4 hours before departure), or it's a suburban / unreserved train without a chart. For early-morning trains, the chart is ready the previous night.
