Frequently Asked Questions

What is the IRCTC live train chart?

The live chart is the final passenger list prepared by Indian Railways before a train departs. It shows confirmed bookings, cancellations and resulting vacant berths.

How do I see vacant berths in a specific coach?

Open Live Chart on Ghumo, enter the train number and boarding station, then tap a coach (e.g. S5) to see exact vacant berth numbers like U-32 or L-14, with the station-segment they're free for.

When is the chart prepared?

Usually about 4 hours before departure for daytime trains. For trains departing before 6:00 AM, the chart is prepared the previous evening (around 9:00 PM).

Can I book a vacant berth shown in the chart?

Yes. After chart prep, IRCTC opens "Current Booking" for vacant berths until 30 minutes before departure. Onboard, you can request the TTE to allot a vacant berth and pay the prevailing fare difference.

What does "segment-wise vacancy" mean?

A berth may be empty only between specific stations. For example, U-32 in S5 might be vacant from Mumbai to Vadodara but booked from Vadodara onward. Ghumo shows the exact free segment.

Is live chart free on Ghumo?

Yes. Live Chart is completely free with no login required.

Why doesn't my train show a chart?

Either chart preparation hasn't happened yet (check ~4 hours before departure), or it's a suburban / unreserved train without a chart. For early-morning trains, the chart is ready the previous night.
